On the 24th of February 2018 Avril and Mike celebrated their special day in style – with a little help from us. They choose to have their afters at Drury buildings in the centre of Dublin. As the choice of venue shows, their wedding was unusual, quirky and personal. They left formality to the wayside for a fun, elegant, and original vibe. We just loved the Drury building’s feel, and couldn’t have been more excited to get to know Avril and Mike more.
At our first meeting, Avril explained to us what they had in mind for their perfect day, which was very original and perfectly matched with the style of Green Door florist. They were looking for loads of greenery, texture and heaps of fairy lights. They were talking our language! From this foundation, we came back to them with designs that we thought would fit the brief.
Avril’s bouquet turned out in a very chic and simple style, with David Austin garden roses, a mix of different greenery and a little bit of white touch. The bride also mentioned that she wanted to have some nice finishing touches for her hair, which would nicely match her 1920’s dress. We made hair pieces in the same style as her bouquet as per her request that added an elegant finishing touch to her look.
Mike and his groomsman’s buttonholes were kept very simple again as the priority was more on the foliage/greenery than the flowers. Greenery with different types of texture and colours was the focus of the buttholes. Mike’s buttonhole stood out from the crowd a little bit as he fell in love with the funky looking craspedia, while they were visiting our shop. We styled a snazzy piece for him as it was his special day after all.
At the venue itself, all the tables were dressed with eucalyptus runners for the middle of each table, with a hint of rosemary as a finishing touch, which adds a little bit of scent. We also dressed all the windows with eucalyptus “curtains” which had a firelight finishing touch. It looked breathtakingly magical.
Every wedding is different and we come up against new challenges all the time. This wedding was epic for us for various reasons. One of them, was because we took 100 pictures, but by the time we realised there was no card in the camera, it was too late. We have to mention; it was pretty late in the day at that stage so no wonder this little error happened… at least we aren’t photographers! Our flowers performed their duty elegantly that day and we could not have been happier to see Avril and Mike celebrate their day in style.
A massive thank you goes to Ingrid for helping us to set up the venue (it was her birthday that day - what a star!) and special thank you to my lovely friends Jana, Linda, Kasia, and Dario who helped us to celebrate Ingrid’s birthday while setting up the venue at the same time. Green Door is a coming together of great people to help you make material the day of your dreams!
